Insights from Our Nottingham Event

Shaping the Future of Healthcare with SmartCo Future Health

Last week in Nottingham, Stalis collaborated with SmartCo Future Health to host an invitation-only evening that brought together healthcare leaders, innovators, as well as our partners from across the UK and Ireland. The event created a friendly and open forum for discussion on the technologies and approaches that are shaping healthcare today, as well as those that will help define it for future generations to come.
“One of the standout moments was the case studies presented by the guest speakers on the future of sustainable data. Their insights into circular design and the role of AI in increasing collaboration sparked some great conversations afterward. A big takeaway for me was realising how crucial cross-industry collaboration is when it comes to driving innovation. Hearing how different sectors are tackling similar challenges really broadened my perspective.”

Our agenda was designed to foster genuine connection and spark conversations across three critical areas:

1. Integrated Care and Interoperability
This session, led by Johan Folkunger and Nina Zoric from DNV Imatis, shone a spotlight on the real-world impact of interoperability. Delegates heard how connecting systems across its network to reduce duplication, ease the burden on clinicians, and support community-first delivery. Our speakers demonstrated that integration is not a theoretical goal, but something already being achieved in ways that directly improve both efficiency and patient experience.

2. Genomics and the Digital Frontier
Genomics is no longer on the horizon – it’s here, shaping the future of preventative care. This discussion explored how genomics, life sciences, and digital innovation are being combined across the East of England to create a foundation for more personalised and proactive healthcare. Attendees were encouraged to think about the infrastructure, partnerships and governance needed to accelerate progress and to consider how more voices, from scientists to health system leaders, can join the conversation.

3. Federated Data Platform (FDP) Integration and Product Development
The closing session featured SmartCo Future Health’s FDP integrated project team, who shared how they have worked nationally, regionally, and locally to solve some of the most complex challenges in healthcare data. Their work showcased how collaboration between technology partners, NHS teams, and suppliers can deliver co-designed solutions that not only meet technical requirements but also unlock new levels of insight, efficiency and ROI.

Beyond the Agenda
While the sessions provided a platform to share lessons learned, what set the Nottingham event apart was the atmosphere. A clean and modern setting used to create a space for genuine dialogue: people in the room who wanted to connect, exchange perspectives, and explore what comes next. We were honoured that our attendees openly shared a vision for how data, AI, and technology can be harnessed to transform healthcare delivery. As one delegate remarked; “AI is already here; we now need to educate and support implementing it in those areas that give most cost savings.”

From DNV Imatis demonstrating how interoperability can streamline even the most overlooked hospital functions, to the FDP project team showing the power of incremental, layered innovation, our event highlighted how real progress is already being made. The conversations repeatedly circled back to one message: healthcare transformation is not about disruption for disruption’s sake, it’s about finding pragmatic, human-centred solutions that make systems work better for staff, patients, and communities.

Looking Ahead
The Nottingham event reinforced that collaboration is the key to innovation. Authentic conversations, honest reflections, and shared learnings are what will enable the NHS and its partners to scale new approaches and ensure that innovation translates into lasting change.

We’re excited to continue this journey. Join us for our next gathering of HealthTech leaders in Liverpool next week.
